A compact market where the price of a click is set search by search.
Canberra customers search for tradies from Gungahlin to Tuggeranong, mostly naming the city rather than the suburb, but there's no single price for showing up. Every trade has its own range, and on a single search the top of Google's estimate can be several times the bottom.

Showing up at the top of Google has a price, and it's set search by search. Here's Google's estimate of what the top spot costs on each trade's main Canberra search, and what moves the price within your trade.
| Trade | Most-searched term | Searches a month* | Top spot, per click* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plumbing | plumber canberra | 1,600 | $14.20–$70.37 |
| Bathroom renovations | bathroom renovations canberra | 1,000 | $6.08–$20.94 |
| Electrical | electrician canberra | 880 | $13.54–$37.85 |
| Builders | canberra builders | 590 | $3.86–$18.77 |
| Kitchen renovations | kitchen renovations canberra | 390 | $3.54–$12.20 |
| Plastering | plasterer canberra | 320 | $3.53–$11.41 |
| Building inspection | building inspection canberra | 110 | $4.85–$18.09 |
The table shows the most-searched Canberra term for each trade. The ranges are Google's estimate of the bid it takes to show at the top of the page. You often pay less per click, because Google only charges what's needed to hold your spot, but the numbers show where the pressure is.
"Electrician Canberra" draws 880 searches a month, with the top spot at $13.54 to $37.85 a click. "Commercial electrician Canberra" draws 20, and Google's estimate for it runs $7.14 to $18.81. Same trade, different work, and Google prices it as its own search.
Keeping your ads inside the districts you cover and bidding on searches that name a district are two different things. The first cuts wasted spend. In plumbing, the second can cost more. "Plumbers Canberra Belconnen" runs $19.71 to $86.22 a click at the top of the page, against $14.20 to $70.37 for "plumber Canberra". Both belong in a well-built account, as long as the budget allows for the difference.
*Google Keyword Planner data (location: Australia) for searches naming Canberra or a Canberra suburb or district, 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026, across seven trades. Searches a month are 12-month averages, with grouped variants counted once and business and product names left out. "Top spot" means the ads at the top of the page; ranges are Google's estimate of the bid it takes to show there.

Here's what actually happened when tradies like you gave us a shot.
Our founder, Mitch, spent 15 years in marketing, much of it as the client hiring agencies.
Plenty of agencies sound great in the pitch. Then the reports start rolling in, full of numbers and short on answers, and you’re left wondering what you’re actually paying for.
Mitch knows that feeling. He lived it for years.
So Trusted Digital starts somewhere else: the business behind the marketing. Who your best customers are, which jobs you want more of, and what a good month actually looks like for you.
That’s what shapes our strategy: marketing that brings in quality enquiries, helps you win the right work and delivers results you can see.
We built the agency we wanted to hire.

Don't take our word for it. Hear it from the businesses we've helped grow.

Are you ready to be the next success story?
The problem isn't that Canberra customers aren't searching. It's paying for clicks on the wrong side of the lake.
The top spot on "emergency plumber Canberra" typically runs $14.86 to $81.37 a click, and a loose radius or the wrong location setting will happily buy clicks in Tuggeranong for a crew based in Gungahlin.
In Canberra, the drive between town centres decides which jobs are worth quoting, and Queanbeyan sits just over the NSW border. A campaign set to the whole region ignores both.
Google Ads can put your business in front of a customer the moment they search for your trade. A loose campaign spends the same money on searches for other businesses, project-home brands and jobs you'd never quote.
Google Ads built around the jobs you actually want in Canberra
We don't start with a generic keyword list. We start with the work you want more of, the parts of Canberra you can service and the customers you want to attract.
Then we build the campaigns, targeting, ads and landing pages needed to turn paid clicks into genuine enquiries, and keep improving them based on what the data shows.

A keyword list with a volume column tells you what people type. It doesn't tell you which of those searches lead to work worth having, or what that click will cost you in this market.
We start with the services that carry the strongest job value, the suburbs where you can realistically deliver, and the customer you want on the other end of the phone. Keyword targeting follows those decisions rather than driving them.
Canberra runs from Gungahlin to Tuggeranong, split by the lake, with Queanbeyan and Googong over the NSW border. A city-wide campaign buys clicks your crew won't drive across town for, and in plumbing, naming a district can push the top spot up.
Location targeting, exclusions, schedules and campaign structure keep spend on the areas where your team can actually win work, then shift as the location data tells us which suburbs are producing.
Someone can click your ad and still leave if the page is vague, slow, or doesn't make it obvious that you do that exact job in their area.
We align the ad message with the landing page so the customer quickly understands the service, the service area, the credibility and the next step, with an enquiry path short enough to finish on a phone.
Cost per click can look excellent while the campaign produces jobs you don't want. A higher-cost click is worth paying when it consistently produces profitable work.
We look past traffic to calls, forms and quote requests, using search term and conversion data to decide which parts of the account deserve more budget and which should be cut.

Campaigns and ad groups organised around the services, job types and Canberra areas that matter commercially.
High-intent keyword targeting, match types and negative keywords, reviewed against real search term data.
Ad copy written around the service, the suburb and the reason a customer should choose your business.

Suburb targeting, border exclusions and ad schedules set around the town centres and travel times your team will accept.
Calls, forms and quote requests connected back to the campaign, keyword and location that produced them.
Spend, lead quality and cost per enquiry reported by service and suburb, with budget moved to what's producing jobs.
How we turn Google Ads into a better lead channel
The campaign isn't finished when the ads go live. We use real search and conversion data to decide what to keep, what to cut and where the next dollar should go.
We define the services, job values and parts of Canberra worth promoting, then research the searches customers use to find your trade. We also review your current account, competitors and conversion setup before the budget starts moving.
We build the campaign structure, targeting, keywords, negative keywords, ads and call and form tracking around that strategy, so you can see what is being spent, what it is for and what it is producing.
Once live, the campaign produces actual search data. We watch what people search, which ads they respond to, which suburbs the clicks come from and which of them turn into enquiries.
We cut irrelevant search terms, tighten targeting, improve weak ads and adjust budgets. If a campaign is spending without producing the right enquiries, we find the reason rather than adding more budget.
Once we know which services, searches and Canberra suburbs are producing good jobs, we put more budget behind them and test related opportunities, based on evidence from your own account.
Google Ads can start fast, but it still needs data to get good.
Your timeline depends on the trade, the budget, the competition in your auctions and how quickly the account gathers enough conversion data to act on.
Business discovery, campaign strategy, keyword research, targeting, tracking and the account build.
Campaigns go live, search terms are reviewed and early conversion data starts shaping the account.
Refine targeting, ads, budgets and landing pages against real lead quality rather than click volume.
Move budget toward the services and Canberra suburbs producing the strongest opportunities.
Higher-cost searches need more patience. When the top spot on your main search can cost more than $30 a click, the account needs more spend before the results are readable. That's a reason to build the campaign tightly, not a reason to wait.
Not every Canberra search that names your trade is a job you'd quote. Knowing which ones are makes a budget go further.
Keyword tools count searches, not jobs. Inside a single trade, the search often names the work. Canberra builder searches include "custom home builders Canberra", "deck builders Canberra" and "Canberra renovation builders", each with its own price at the top of the page. If you don't build decks, those clicks are budget spent on work you won't quote.
The wording of a search changes its price too. "Bathroom renovations Canberra" draws 1,000 searches a month with the top spot at $6.08 to $20.94, while "bathroom renovation cost Canberra" runs $3.80 to $9.01. Adding "cost" brings the whole range down here, but a cheaper click isn't automatically a better one. Both need their own ads, their own pages and a clear call on how much budget each deserves.
Urgent searches can sit higher. "Emergency plumber Canberra" gets 260 searches a month, and the top spot typically runs $14.86 to $81.37 a click, against $14.20 to $70.37 for "plumber Canberra". Deciding whether you want after-hours work, before the budget starts moving, is worth more than any change to your bids made afterwards.

Different businesses. Different challenges. The same focus on better customers, better jobs and predictable growth.

Straight answers for Canberra trade business owners considering Google Ads.
It depends on your trade and the exact search. The Cost to Compete table above shows the top-spot range on your trade's main Canberra search. Those are Google's estimates of the bid it takes to show at the top of the page, and what you actually pay is often lower. The number that matters more is what each booked job costs you, and that's what we report on.
Work backwards from the jobs. Say you're an electrician paying $15 a click, inside the top-spot range for "electrician Canberra". If 1 in 10 clicks becomes an enquiry and you book 1 in 3, each job costs about $450 in ad spend, so five extra jobs a month needs a budget of about $2,250. If you make well over $450 profit on an average job, that works. If you don't, we'll tell you before you spend anything. These are example numbers. On the call, we'll run them with yours.
That question covers two different things. Showing your ads only to people in the suburbs you service is almost always worth doing. It won't necessarily make each click cheaper, but it stops you paying for customers across the lake or over the border. Bidding on searches that name a district, like "plumbers Canberra Belconnen", is different. The top spot there runs $19.71 to $86.22 a click, against $14.20 to $70.37 for "plumber Canberra", so budget for it before you chase it.
Yes, and in Canberra it's less about kilometres than the drive between town centres. A plumber in Tuggeranong may happily drive to Woden but not out to Gungahlin in the afternoon peak. Google's default setting also shows ads to people elsewhere searching about your area, so we target people who are in, or regularly in, the suburbs you work, exclude the rest, including Queanbeyan if you don't cross the border, and review location performance as the data builds.
Sometimes not, and we'll tell you. The top spot on "blocked drains Canberra" typically runs $9.35 to $30.78 a click, so a small call-out only pays back if enough clicks turn into jobs and there's repeat work behind it. Trades with higher job values, or ones that turn small jobs into bigger work, usually get more out of paid search.
We check the searches your ads actually showed for and block the ones that don't fit, using negative keywords. Plenty of Canberra builder searches name another business, a project-home brand or a builder's licence, and some are about home builder grants. You pay for those clicks whether or not they become enquiries, so blocking them is ongoing work rather than a one-off setup task.
You can, but it's the expensive fix. Position depends on your bid and your ad quality together, so a more relevant ad and a landing page that matches the search can lift you for less. On "emergency plumber Canberra", where the top spot typically runs $14.86 to $81.37 a click, outbidding a bigger budget is a race worth staying out of.
Ads can get clicks within a day or so of Google approving them. A steady flow of the right enquiries usually takes a few weeks, because the account needs real search data before we know what to cut and what to back. Six of the seven main Canberra trade searches we tracked, from "plumber Canberra" to "plasterer Canberra", are rated High competition by Google, so early refinement is where the money gets saved.
If your existing service page clearly shows you do that job, in that part of Canberra, with an obvious way to enquire, it can work. Most tradie websites don't. A page matched to the ad and the area, such as bathroom renovations in Belconnen, usually turns more clicks into enquiries, which does more for your cost per job than chasing cheaper clicks.
If you need work next month, Google Ads. It buys visibility straight away, where local SEO builds it over time. Many established Canberra trade businesses end up running both, with paid search covering high-demand searches now and local SEO in Canberra reducing how much you rely on paying per click later.
