A large market where the price of a click is set search by search.
Melbourne customers search for tradies every day, but what it costs to show up for them is never the same twice. Every trade has its own range, and on a single search the top of Google's estimate can be several times the bottom.

Showing up at the top of Google has a price, and it's set search by search. Here's Google's estimate of what the top spot costs on each trade's main Melbourne search, and what moves the price within your trade.
| Trade | Main Melbourne search | Searches a month* | Top spot, per click* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plumbing | plumber melbourne | 3,600 | $12.24–$49.73 |
| Building inspection | building inspection melbourne | 1,900 | $6.88–$22.66 |
| Electrical | electrician melbourne | 1,300 | $8.92–$32.77 |
| Bathroom renovations | bathroom renovations melbourne | 1,300 | $5.62–$25.25 |
| Kitchen renovations | kitchen renovations melbourne | 1,300 | $5.03–$23.67 |
| Builders | melbourne home builders | 1,300 | $2.71–$10.83 |
| Plastering | plasterer melbourne | 260 | $3.49–$11.63 |
The table shows Google's estimate of the bid it takes to show at the top of the page on each trade's main Melbourne search. What you actually pay is often lower than the top of the range, but the spread shows how far the price can move on one search.
A suburb search carries its own price. "Plumber Dandenong" runs $26.67 to $72.93 a click at the top of the page, against $12.24 to $49.73 for "plumber Melbourne". Showing your ads only in the suburbs you service and bidding on searches that name a suburb are two different jobs, and both belong in a well-built account.
*Google Keyword Planner data (location: Australia) for searches that name Melbourne or a Melbourne suburb, across seven trades, 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026. Searches a month are 12-month averages and close variants are counted once. Business and product names are left out. Click ranges are Google's estimate of the bid it takes to show at the top of the page, not what advertisers paid.

Here's what actually happened when tradies like you gave us a shot.
Our founder, Mitch, spent 15 years in marketing, much of it as the client hiring agencies.
Plenty of agencies sound great in the pitch. Then the reports start rolling in, full of numbers and short on answers, and you’re left wondering what you’re actually paying for.
Mitch knows that feeling. He lived it for years.
So Trusted Digital starts somewhere else: the business behind the marketing. Who your best customers are, which jobs you want more of, and what a good month actually looks like for you.
That’s what shapes our strategy: marketing that brings in quality enquiries, helps you win the right work and delivers results you can see.
We built the agency we wanted to hire.

Don't take our word for it. Hear it from the businesses we've helped grow.

Are you ready to be the next success story?
The problem isn't that Melbourne customers aren't searching. It's what you pay to reach the wrong ones.
Google's estimate for the top spot on core plumbing searches runs past $50 a click, and a campaign set to all of Greater Melbourne will happily buy clicks from Werribee for a business working out of Cranbourne.
The cost of a click isn't the problem. Paying it for the wrong search, in the wrong suburb, is.
Google Ads can put your business in front of a customer at the exact moment they need your trade. A loose campaign spends the same money on searches you would never want to pay for.
Google Ads built around the jobs you actually want in Melbourne
We don't start with a generic keyword list. We start with the work you want more of, the Melbourne areas you can service and the customers you want to attract.
Then we build the campaigns, targeting, ads and landing pages needed to turn paid clicks into genuine enquiries, and keep improving them based on what the data shows.

A keyword list with a volume column tells you what people type. It doesn't tell you which of those searches lead to work worth having, or what that click will cost you in this market.
We start with the services that carry the strongest job value, the suburbs where you can realistically deliver, and the customer you want on the other end of the phone. Keyword targeting follows those decisions rather than driving them.
Greater Melbourne runs from Werribee to Cranbourne. A campaign set to the whole metro will buy clicks hours from your van, and Google's default setting also shows your ads to people elsewhere who are searching about the area.
We target people who are in, or regularly in, the suburbs you work, exclude the rest, then shift budget as the location data shows which areas are producing.
Someone can click your ad and still leave if the page is vague, slow, or doesn't make it obvious that you do that exact job in their area.
We align the ad message with the landing page so the customer quickly understands the service, the service area, the credibility and the next step, with an enquiry path short enough to finish on a phone.
Cost per click can look excellent while the campaign produces jobs you don't want. A higher-cost click is worth paying when it consistently produces profitable work.
We look past traffic to calls, forms and quote requests, using search term and conversion data to decide which parts of the account deserve more budget and which should be cut.
A complete Google Ads system for a Melbourne trade business.
The exact mix is tailored to your services, service area, budget, competition and growth goals.
Settings, structure, conversion actions and the areas of an existing account most likely to waste budget.
Campaigns and ad groups organised around the services, job types and Melbourne areas that matter commercially.
High-intent keyword targeting, match types and negative keywords, reviewed against real search term data.
Ad copy written around the service, the suburb and the reason a customer should choose your business.
Recommendations that keep the page consistent with the ad and make the enquiry obvious on a phone.
Suburb targeting, exclusions and ad schedules built around where and when your team wants work.
Calls, forms and quote requests connected back to the campaign, keyword and location that produced them.
Ongoing analysis of spend, lead quality and cost, with budget moved toward what is producing jobs.
How we turn Google Ads into a better lead channel
The campaign isn't finished when the ads go live. We use real search and conversion data to decide what to keep, what to cut and where the next dollar should go.
We define the services, job values and Melbourne areas worth promoting, then research the searches customers use when they are ready to call. We also review your current account, competitors and conversion setup before the budget starts moving.
We build the campaign structure, targeting, keywords, negative keywords, ads and conversion tracking around that strategy, so you can see what is being spent, what it is for and what it is producing.
Once live, the campaign produces actual search data. We watch what people search, which ads they respond to, which suburbs the clicks come from and which of them turn into enquiries.
We cut irrelevant search terms, tighten targeting, improve weak ads and adjust budgets. If a campaign is spending without producing the right enquiries, we find the reason rather than adding more budget.
Once we know which services, searches and Melbourne suburbs are producing good jobs, we put more budget behind them and test related opportunities, based on evidence from your own account.
Google Ads can start fast, but it still needs data to get good.
Your timeline depends on the trade, the budget, the competition in your auctions and how quickly the account gathers enough conversion data to act on.
Business discovery, campaign strategy, keyword research, targeting, tracking and the account build.
Campaigns go live, search terms are reviewed and early conversion data starts shaping the account.
Refine targeting, ads, budgets and landing pages against real lead quality rather than click volume.
Move budget toward the services and Melbourne suburbs producing the strongest opportunities.
Higher-cost searches need more patience. When Google's top-spot estimate in your trade runs past $50 a click, the account needs more spend before the results are readable. That's a reason to build the campaign tightly, not a reason to wait.
Two searches can name the same trade and cost very different amounts. Knowing which ones you want is what makes a budget go further.
Keyword tools count searches, not jobs. Inside a single trade, the search often names the work. Melbourne plumbing searches include "leak detection Melbourne" at 1,000 a month, "blocked drain Melbourne" at 880 and "roof plumber Melbourne" at 720, each with its own price at the top of the page. If you don't do roof plumbing, those clicks are budget spent on work you won't quote.
The wording of a search changes its price too. Still inside bathroom renovations, "bathroom renovations Melbourne" carries a top-spot estimate of $5.62 to $25.25, while "cheap bathroom renovations Melbourne" sits at $3.87 to $12.60. Same trade, different words, a very different price for the same position on the page.
Urgency moves it again. "Emergency plumbing Melbourne" draws about 720 searches a month with a top-spot estimate of $10.32 to $69.37, a wider range than the $12.24 to $49.73 on "plumber Melbourne". Deciding which of these searches you want before the budget starts moving is worth more than any bid adjustment made afterwards.

Different businesses. Different challenges. The same focus on better customers, better jobs and predictable growth.

Straight answers for trade business owners considering Google Ads.
It depends on your trade and the exact search. The Cost to Compete table above shows the top-spot range on your trade's main Melbourne search. Those are Google's estimates of the bid it takes to show at the top of the page, and what you actually pay is often lower. The number that matters more is what each booked job costs you, and that's what we report on.
That question covers two different things. Showing your ads only to people in the suburbs you service is almost always worth doing. It won't make each click cheaper, but it stops you paying for clicks from areas you'd never drive to. Bidding on searches that name a suburb, like "plumber Dandenong", is a separate decision, and those searches carry their own price. Both belong in a well-built account.
Yes, and it matters more here than in most cities. Greater Melbourne runs from Werribee to Cranbourne, so a campaign set to the whole metro can buy clicks hours from your van. We target people who are in, or regularly in, the suburbs you work, and exclude the rest. Worth knowing: Google's default setting also shows ads to people elsewhere who search about the area, so that gets changed too.
Sometimes not, and we'll tell you. If a click costs $30 and a call-out is worth $180, the numbers only work with a strong conversion rate and repeat work behind it. Trades with higher job values, or ones that turn small jobs into bigger work, usually get more out of paid search.
Search term reviews and negative keywords, continuously. Plenty of searches name a trade without being a customer: product searches, training and course searches, job searches and searches for other businesses. Those clicks cost the same as a real enquiry, so removing them is ongoing work rather than a one-off setup task.
You can, but it's the expensive fix. Position depends on your bid and your ad quality together, so a more relevant ad and a landing page that matches the search can lift you for less. Outbidding a bigger budget on "emergency plumbing Melbourne" is a race worth staying out of.
Ads can get clicks within a day or so of Google approving them. Worthwhile enquiries usually take a few weeks, because the account needs real search data before we know what to cut and what to back. Six of the seven main Melbourne trade searches we tracked are rated High competition by Google, so that early refinement is where the money gets saved.
If your existing service page clearly shows you do that job, in that area, with an obvious way to enquire, it can work. Most tradie websites don't. A landing page matched to the ad and the suburb usually converts better, and a better conversion rate beats a cheaper click every time.
If you need work next month, Google Ads. It buys visibility straight away, where local SEO builds it over time. Most established Melbourne trade businesses end up running both, with paid search covering high-intent searches now and local SEO in Melbourne reducing how much you rely on paying per click later.
For eligible campaigns, if we don't generate at least one qualified lead within the first 14 days after launch, we refund your first month's management fee. Eligibility and full guarantee terms apply.
