A sprawling market where the price of a click is set search by search.
Sydney customers search for tradies from Penrith to the eastern suburbs, but there's no single price for showing up. Every trade has its own range, and on a single search the top of Google's estimate can be several times the bottom.

Showing up at the top of Google has a price, and it's set search by search. Here's Google's estimate of what the top spot costs on each trade's main Sydney search, and what moves the price within your trade.
| Trade | Most-searched term | Searches a month* | Top spot, per click* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plumbing | plumber sydney | 3,600 | $7.93–$36.53 |
| Bathroom renovations | bathroom renovations sydney | 2,400 | $8.11–$30.18 |
| Electrical | electrician sydney | 1,900 | $6.68–$33.71 |
| Builders | sydney builders | 1,300 | $5.98–$24.10 |
| Kitchen renovations | kitchen renovations sydney | 1,300 | $5.10–$16.18 |
| Building inspection | building inspection sydney | 720 | $3.49–$13.69 |
| Plastering | plasterer sydney | 480 | $3.72–$12.58 |
The table shows the most-searched Sydney term for each trade. The ranges are Google's estimate of the bid it takes to show at the top of the page. You often pay less per click, because Google only charges what's needed to hold your spot, but the numbers show where the pressure is.
"Electrician Sydney" draws 1,900 searches a month, with the top spot at $6.68 to $33.71 a click. "Level 2 electrician Sydney" draws 480, and the low end of its range starts higher, at $11.00. Level 2 is an NSW accreditation, and Google prices it as its own search.
Keeping your ads on your side of the harbour and bidding on searches that name a suburb are two different things. The first cuts wasted spend. In plumbing, the second usually costs more. "Plumber Blacktown" runs $22.26 to $89.76 a click at the top of the page, against $7.93 to $36.53 for "plumber Sydney". Both belong in a well-built account, as long as the budget allows for the difference.
*Google Keyword Planner data (location: Australia) for searches naming Sydney or a Sydney suburb or district, 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026, across seven trades. Searches a month are 12-month averages, with grouped variants counted once and business and product names left out. "Top spot" means the ads at the top of the page; ranges are Google's estimate of the bid it takes to show there.

Here's what actually happened when tradies like you gave us a shot.
Our founder, Mitch, spent 15 years in marketing, much of it as the client hiring agencies.
Plenty of agencies sound great in the pitch. Then the reports start rolling in, full of numbers and short on answers, and you’re left wondering what you’re actually paying for.
Mitch knows that feeling. He lived it for years.
So Trusted Digital starts somewhere else: the business behind the marketing. Who your best customers are, which jobs you want more of, and what a good month actually looks like for you.
That’s what shapes our strategy: marketing that brings in quality enquiries, helps you win the right work and delivers results you can see.
We built the agency we wanted to hire.

Don't take our word for it. Hear it from the businesses we've helped grow.

Are you ready to be the next success story?
The problem isn't that Sydney customers aren't searching. It's paying for clicks on the wrong side of the harbour.
The top spot on "emergency plumber Sydney" can cost more than $80 a click, and a loose radius or the wrong location setting will happily buy clicks in Manly for a crew based in Campbelltown.
In Sydney, the tolls and the traffic decide which jobs are worth quoting. A campaign set to the whole city ignores both.
Google Ads can put your business in front of a customer the moment they search for your trade. A loose campaign spends the same money on searches for other businesses, Harbour Bridge history and jobs you'd never quote.
Google Ads built around the jobs you actually want in Sydney
We don't start with a generic keyword list. We start with the work you want more of, the parts of Sydney you can service and the customers you want to attract.
Then we build the campaigns, targeting, ads and landing pages needed to turn paid clicks into genuine enquiries, and keep improving them based on what the data shows.

A keyword list with a volume column tells you what people type. It doesn't tell you which of those searches lead to work worth having, or what that click will cost you in this market.
We start with the services that carry the strongest job value, the suburbs where you can realistically deliver, and the customer you want on the other end of the phone. Keyword targeting follows those decisions rather than driving them.
Greater Sydney runs from Penrith to the eastern beaches, split by the harbour and the tolls. A metro-wide campaign buys clicks your crew won't cross the bridge for, and in plumbing, suburb searches are often the dearest in the account.
Location targeting, exclusions, schedules and campaign structure keep spend on the areas where your team can actually win work, then shift as the location data tells us which suburbs are producing.
Someone can click your ad and still leave if the page is vague, slow, or doesn't make it obvious that you do that exact job in their area.
We align the ad message with the landing page so the customer quickly understands the service, the service area, the credibility and the next step, with an enquiry path short enough to finish on a phone.
Cost per click can look excellent while the campaign produces jobs you don't want. A higher-cost click is worth paying when it consistently produces profitable work.
We look past traffic to calls, forms and quote requests, using search term and conversion data to decide which parts of the account deserve more budget and which should be cut.

How we turn Google Ads into a better lead channel
The campaign isn't finished when the ads go live. We use real search and conversion data to decide what to keep, what to cut and where the next dollar should go.
We define the services, job values and parts of Sydney worth promoting, then research the searches customers use to find your trade. We also review your current account, competitors and conversion setup before the budget starts moving.
We build the campaign structure, targeting, keywords, negative keywords, ads and call and form tracking around that strategy, so you can see what is being spent, what it is for and what it is producing.
Once live, the campaign produces actual search data. We watch what people search, which ads they respond to, which suburbs the clicks come from and which of them turn into enquiries.
We cut irrelevant search terms, tighten targeting, improve weak ads and adjust budgets. If a campaign is spending without producing the right enquiries, we find the reason rather than adding more budget.
Once we know which services, searches and Sydney suburbs are producing good jobs, we put more budget behind them and test related opportunities, based on evidence from your own account.
Google Ads can start fast, but it still needs data to get good.
Your timeline depends on the trade, the budget, the competition in your auctions and how quickly the account gathers enough conversion data to act on.
Business discovery, campaign strategy, keyword research, targeting, tracking and the account build.
Campaigns go live, search terms are reviewed and early conversion data starts shaping the account.
Refine targeting, ads, budgets and landing pages against real lead quality rather than click volume.
Move budget toward the services and Sydney suburbs producing the strongest opportunities.
Higher-cost searches need more patience. When the top spot on your main search can cost more than $30 a click, the account needs more spend before the results are readable. That's a reason to build the campaign tightly, not a reason to wait.
Not every Sydney search that names your trade is a job you'd quote. Knowing which ones are makes a budget go further.
Keyword tools count searches, not jobs. Inside a single trade, the search often names the work. Sydney builder searches include "duplex builders Sydney", "granny flat builders Sydney" and "remedial builder Sydney", each with its own price at the top of the page. If you don't build granny flats, those clicks are budget spent on work you won't quote.
The wording of a search changes its price too. "Plumber Sydney" draws 3,600 searches a month with the top spot at $7.93 to $36.53, while "cheap plumber Sydney" runs $10.51 to $41.04. Adding "cheap" doesn't buy a cheaper click here. Both need their own ads, their own pages and a clear call on which jobs you want, and if you don't compete on price, "cheap" belongs on your negative keyword list.
Urgent searches sit higher again. "Emergency plumber Sydney" gets 720 searches a month, and the low end of its top-spot range is $16.88 a click, against $7.93 for "plumber Sydney". Deciding whether you want after-hours work, before the budget starts moving, is worth more than any change to your bids made afterwards.

Different businesses. Different challenges. The same focus on better customers, better jobs and predictable growth.

Google Ads across Greater Sydney
We run Google Ads for trade businesses across Greater Sydney. Here a realistic service area is set less by distance than by what your team will cross, from the harbour to the toll roads, and that's how we build the targeting.
Budget follows the suburbs your team will actually cross town for.

Straight answers for Sydney trade business owners considering Google Ads.
It depends on your trade and the exact search. The Cost to Compete table above shows the top-spot range on your trade's main Sydney search. Those are Google's estimates of the bid it takes to show at the top of the page, and what you actually pay is often lower. The number that matters more is what each booked job costs you, and that's what we report on.
That question covers two different things. Showing your ads only to people in the suburbs you service is almost always worth doing. It won't necessarily make each click cheaper, but it stops you paying for customers across the harbour or past the tolls. Bidding on searches that name a suburb, like "plumber Randwick", is different. The top spot there runs $24.44 to $118.68 a click, against $7.93 to $36.53 for "plumber Sydney", so budget for it before you chase it.
Yes, and in Sydney it's less about kilometres than crossings. A plumber in Cronulla may happily drive to Engadine but not across the harbour to Chatswood in the afternoon peak. Google's default setting also shows ads to people elsewhere searching about your area, so we target people who are in, or regularly in, the suburbs you work, exclude the rest, and review location performance as the data builds.
Sometimes not, and we'll tell you. The top spot on "blocked drain Sydney" typically runs $17.41 to $48.79 a click, so a small call-out only pays back if enough clicks turn into jobs and there's repeat work behind it. Trades with higher job values, or ones that turn small jobs into bigger work, usually get more out of paid search.
We check the searches your ads actually showed for and block the ones that don't fit, using negative keywords. Plenty of Sydney builder searches name another business, a display home or a construction cadetship, and some are about the Harbour Bridge. You pay for those clicks whether or not they become enquiries, so blocking them is ongoing work rather than a one-off setup task.
You can, but it's the expensive fix. Position depends on your bid and your ad quality together, so a more relevant ad and a landing page that matches the search can lift you for less. On "emergency plumber Sydney", where the top spot typically runs $16.88 to $85.67 a click, outbidding a bigger budget is a race worth staying out of.
Ads can get clicks within a day or so of Google approving them. A steady flow of the right enquiries usually takes a few weeks, because the account needs real search data before we know what to cut and what to back. Five of the seven main Sydney trade searches we tracked, from "plumber Sydney" to "kitchen renovations Sydney", are rated High competition by Google, so early refinement is where the money gets saved.
If your existing service page clearly shows you do that job, in that part of Sydney, with an obvious way to enquire, it can work. Most tradie websites don't. A page matched to the ad and the area, such as bathroom renovations in the Shire, usually turns more clicks into enquiries, which does more for your cost per job than chasing cheaper clicks.
If you need work next month, Google Ads. It buys visibility straight away, where local SEO builds it over time. Many established Sydney trade businesses end up running both, with paid search covering high-demand searches now and local SEO in Sydney reducing how much you rely on paying per click later.
